Cancer does not discriminate

Earlier on last week the team at Granite Planet were going about our normal operations, when two ladies walked in campaigning about the Pink Ribbon initiative through NBCF.

What is NBCF? NBCF stands for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. "In 1994, when NBCF was founded, 30 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer lost their battle. In less than 20 years, through research, that percentage has halved" - Carole Renouf.

The foundation's ultimate goal is to eliminate all deaths caused by breast cancer by 2030. To achieve this goal the foundation needs donations to feed research and help prevent/treat breast cancer. Early detection is key to treating cancer and by creating awareness through funded research it will contribute in the plight of saving lives.

Cancer does not discriminate - young, old, gender or race. Sitting with my 70 year old aunty in a hospital waiting room with fellow cancer patients and waiting for her radiation session proved that to me. At 70 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was proactive and sought relevant treatment to help get through the illness. Research and treatment has come so far and my aunty was a survivor through early detection and by receiving the right treatment to help her particular case. For others this may not be the case...

There is more to lighting than just light…

A growing trend is the use of lighting and how it can add character to an already stunning kitchen.

What do I mean by this?

A controlled lighting system offers different shade variations to set the mood, it pertains to energy saving methods and can enhance architectural elements through its lighting techniques.

Light is essential in all homes – too much or too little can change the perception of any space. This particular kitchen featured in this blog highlights the use of natural light during the day and at night, a sophisticated lighting system is utilised to create a different atmosphere.

Below is an example of the kitchen project Granite Planet worked on in East Malvern, Victoria. The design of this kitchen collaborates beautiful stone (Super White granite supplied by G-Lux and manufactured and installed by Granite Planet), gorgeous cabinetry, effective splashbacks and a cleverly designed lighting set-up.

"R U OK? DAY": Tomorrow, September 12th, marks the very day.

Generally when we greet people it starts with "Hello, how are you?", but do you actually listen to that person's response?

The 'R U OK? Foundation', has set-up an "R U OK?Day" national campaign to help gauge other people's feelings and support those who may be struggling with their life. It is also a day to remind yourself about how you feel and whether you need support?

Tomorrow marks the very day. It's about re-enforcing the idea to ask those around you about whether they "are ok" and for you to listen out for a meaningful response, as to how they are really feeling. Whether it be your friends, family or colleagues, give it a go and make a difference. At Granite Planet, we will.
