G-Lux Showroom Spectacular – “rainbow of colour”

G-Lux opened their doors to the public on Monday, 25 February 2013, to showcase their designer showroom – featuring some of the finest natural stone and porcelain on offer in the Melbourne market!

Granite Planet proudly took part in this amazing showroom located on Balmain Road, in the chic suburb of Richmond.

The showroom greets the patron upon entry as an art gallery, with butterflies welcoming you before you set eyes on the intricacy of the ‘tiny men’ decorating the landscape of layered marble and limestone.

THE WALL - an impressive span of 13 metres

Granite Planet were privileged to help manufacture the visual wall display designed by architect, Rob Davidov. This display was drawn from the “raw inspiration” of the shipping containers and crates that granites, marbles, stones and porcelains arrive in from the “four corners of the world.” (Ref: G-Lux blog: And we’re in.. www.g-lux.com.au).

Granite Planet were also thrilled to craft the 20mm stone cabinet top supporting the stone samples available for clients, a display under-mount sink with a 40mm mitred splashback and many stone samples prepared for distribution to patrons.

Granite Planet believes that the must-see attraction in this dynamic showroom is designer Carlos Flores’ solid custom made Onyx seating. It is something that we, from the stone industry are still in awe over.

We are taking this opportunity to congratulate G-Lux on their innovation and new showroom – may it bring them the best of success!

Recipes that rock!

What consumes our thoughts as humans? Money, work, family, relationships, health, lust… And food, to name a few topics! So using the help of stone projects that Granite Planet manufactured, I have conjured up some playful recipes that reflect imagination in all areas of the home (where stone may be present that is).

By no standard can I even begin to compare myself to Jamie Oliver or a MasterChef, but as an apprentice blogger I take the opportunity to use my muse “stone" to select some recipes of inspiration.

Bar Top – Cocktail, On the Rocks

Would you go ‘au naturel’?

The great debate in the stone industry is always a topic of relevance – natural stone or reconstituted stone (man-made). If you ask the artistic mind of a stonemason what stone they would prefer to work with – their answer is summarised as follows:

A symbol of beauty…

Natural is stunning, beautiful, characteristic and delicate. It is more porous and is not recommended in high intensity areas. Product types comprise of indoor and outdoor projects, such as island bench feature pieces, coffee tables, reception desks, BBQs and fireplaces.

A symbol of strength…

Reconstituted is non porous, strong and easy to maintain (highly resistant to defect). It looks beautiful and has been engineered to emulate natural stone, but its design personality is quite consistent throughout the material, as opposed to natural stone. Product types comprise of indoor projects, such a kitchen or bathroom.

A Granite Planet team member is always available to help identify the type of stone you want and what stone would best suit your purpose. Please feel free to send me any questions or stone topics you want covered.
