Bookshelves are trending in the kitchen

Today, island benches are a very common trend in kitchen design and are being incorporated to serve more than just one purpose.

They are used for -
  • Convenience: Additional seating and hidden storage e.g. via drawers, cabinets and shelving options.
  • Appearance: To look the part and act as a feature item in the kitchen.
  • Functionality: Provide room for amenities such as cook-tops and sink appliances. This is in aid of food preparation, cooking and cleaning up.
  • Lifestyle:
    • To act as a family gathering area and/or help keep watch on the kids by giving them activities to do surrounding the island bench e.g. homework.
    • To act as an entertainment area to serve guests and host company.

When choosing to have an Island bench, you need to ensure there is enough space in the room. Island benches can be a fixed installation (permanent) or a movable object (semi-permanent e.g. on wheels).

There's a growing number of kitchens incorporating bookshelves as part of the kitchen island bench. At Granite Planet, we feel there is no better place to store kitchen cookbooks for easy access, viewing and display! If you like this idea, check out the following design examples for inspiration.

BIENVENUE (WELCOME)...  to the world of French Provincial design, a relaxed, charming and timeless style.

"Rustic and understated" are the most commonly used words to describe French Provincial kitchens.

So let's go back to the basics - French Provincial kitchens are also known as a "Farmer's kitchen". The style originates from the provinces of France, with design influence from Paris and Lyon.

The striking design style revolves around the concept of the kitchen being the focus and heart of the home. French Provincial kitchens are country-like (farm themed), sophisticated, relaxing and elegantly romantic. Design features depicting this style:

- Decorative corbels / wooden carvings:
